ABOUT THE PROJECT
The picturesque Bišumuiža was once the summer residence of rich residents of Riga, later – also an industrial district, after the First World War – a quiet outskirts of Riga. Bišumuiža as a settlement began to form in the 18th century on the Bauska road near the small tributary of the Bišupīte river in the Daugava. For the first time in the city plan, Bišumuiža appears as a part of the city in 1828. In 1884, omnibus traffic from Bišumuiža to the center of Riga was opened. At the beginning of the 20th century, it was replaced by the tram. In the 19th century, the growth of Bišumuiža was promoted by the flourishing industry. At the end of the 19th century, there were 6 factories there. There are still streets here that have kept their names for at least a century: Bauskas, Mazā Bauskas, Dole, Bukaišu and Gulbju.
